HAMLET

director’s note

Something smells like teen spirit in the state of Denmark. In this production Hamlet is 19 (we know this is much debated and if someone would like to debate or fight the director on it: you can reach out here). Hamlet has always been a coming-of-age tale, a Bildungsroman, a Renaissance-era “Perks of Being a Wallflower”/”Breakfast Club”. We hope this production still honors the tragedy of the prince of Denmark, but sprinkles in familiar elements of classic coming-of-age movies, with a synth-heavy LIVE score written and performed by the incomparable Celia Tewey.

Not to worry! No Shakespeare was harmed in the making of this production. With The Bard’s original text we hope to make this story more familiar and explore the growing pains of post-pubescence and pre-adulthood.

SHE KILLS MONSTERS: VIRTUAL REALMS

director’s note

Screen fatigue is real in 2021, where Tik Tok memes, online classrooms, and Facebook mom groups dominate our virtual worlds. She Kills Monsters challenges what it means to tell a story on a screen. We follow average high school senior Agnes Evans as she leaves the suburb of Athens, Ohio to the mythical online realm of Dungeons & Dragons after her sister, Tilly, dies suddenly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s D&D notebook she begins a quest for her sister's soul and goes on an action-packed adventure crafted by her sister. Epic music and Mountain Dew ensue. This journey is packed full, with zoom battle montages, vampire cheerleader dance battles, a five-headed dragon, and (possibly) the world's first completely virtual Jello mold. Be gone screen fatigue, blue light glasses are encouraged while viewing but (warning!) they may not protect you from the sheer awesomeness radiating off the screen. Join the campaign, your adventure and inner geek await.
